Psy-Harmonics was an independent record label based in Australia that specialised in electronic music. Founded by Ollie Olsen, Andrew Till, Bruce Butler and Simon Polinski in 1993,[1] the label released music from both Australian and international artists, including the enigmatic Shaolin Wooden Men, whose human identities were never revealed. The founders also released music on the label under various monikers: Olsen (Third Eye, The Visitors, Fluoro Conspiracy),[2][3] Till (The Visitors)[4] and Polinski (Hesius Dome).[5]

According to Till, the label ceased selling alternative electronic music as of December 2010 ("Psy-Harmonics ceased releasing Music in Dec 2010").[6] Till played a "retro" Psy-Harmonics DJ set at the "SpaceMandala" open air party in Japan, alongside former label artists Masa and Ree.K, in late September 2014.[7]

Distribution

A distribution deal was arranged with Mushroom Distribution Services for the release of the label's recordings.[8]

International

The label held events in Finland in 1997 and 1999, and label artist Texas Faggott performed at the latter.[9] An event titled "Explosion From Down Under" was held at the Vinyl NYC venue in New York City, United States, in March 1999.[10]

Past artists

20th anniversary event

To commemorate the 20th anniversary since the label's inception, an event was held in Melbourne, Australia, at the Royal Melbourne Hotel venue on 11 October 2013. Label artists who performed were: Zen Paradox, Till, Antediluvian Rocking Horse, Dominic Hogan (Lumukanda) and Rip Van Hippy.[1]

Other projects

Till launched another Australian-based record label named "Machine" in 2009;[14] like Psy-Harmonics, Machine has a predominant focus on alternative electronic music and, according to its SoundCloud page, is a label for "deep futuristic techno music".[15] Machine has released recording from artists such as Vincenn, H229, and The Black Moy.[14]

Polinski, a teacher of sound design, mixing and production at the "NMIT Fairfield" TAFE college since 2005, opened the "Simon Polinski Mix School" in 2014. As a recording engineer, Polinski also worked with artists such as Tim Finn, Paul Kelly and Yothu Yindi.[16][17]
