The Prosecutor General of Puerto Rico (Spanish: Procurador General de Puerto Rico) is the prosecutor and attorney who represents the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in all civil and criminal matters in that it is a party or has an interest, and which are handled on appeal or in any other manner in the courts of Puerto Rico, the United States, or its territories or possessions.[1] The prosecutor reports directly to the Secretary of Justice of Puerto Rico and leads the Office of the Prosecutor General of Puerto Rico.[1] The current prosecutor is Margarita Mercado Echegaray.[2]
