Prionomyrmecini is an ant tribe belonging to the subfamily Myrmeciinae.[1] The only living genus in this tribe is Nothomyrmecia, with the extinct genera Archimyrmex and Prionomyrmex the type genus for which the tribe is named.
Characteristics
With the following apomorphies:[2]
- Masticatory margins of the closed mandibles meeting along most of their length but not broadly overlapping, forming a tight closure with the anteromedially protruding clypeus
- Stout setiform cuticular projections on masticatory margin of mandible
- Lateral clypeal carina present
- Worker ocelli reduced or absent
