Princess Katarina of Yugoslavia (born 28 November 1959) is a princess of Yugoslavia and Serbia[1] and a member of the House of Karageorgevich. She is also a is a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, being a Great Great Great Granddaughter of Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and 1st Duke of Edinburgh and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. Her maternal great grandmother was Princess Alice of Battenberg, the mother of her great uncle Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, therefore also making her a niece of Queen Elizabeth II Princess Katarina occasionally carries out royal duties at some functions in Commonwealth realms both in and outside the United Kingdom. Otherwise, She manages her own businesses and undertakes various commercial work around the world. Princess Katarina is currently in the line of succession to the British throne as a descendant of Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom.[2]
Yugoslav Royal House
Katarina was born in London to Prince Tomislav of Yugoslavia, second son of Alexander I, the King of Serbia and the first King of Yugoslavia, and Princess Margarita of Baden. She has one brother, Prince Nikola of Yugoslavia, and two half-brothers, Prince George and Prince Michael. She is a first cousin of Alexander, Crown Prince of Yugoslavia.
She married Sir Desmond Lorenz de Silva QC (born 13 December 1939) on 5 December 1987. They divorced on 6 May 2010. Their only child is Victoria Marie Esmé Margarita, born 6 September 1991 in London.
British Royal Family
Princess Katarina is also a member of the British Royal Family.[3] Both her mother and father were descendants of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. Princess Katarina's paternal great great grandfather was Prince Alfred Ernest Albert, 1st Duke of Edinburgh who also held the title Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha the second eldest son of Queen Victoria, his daughter, Princess Katarina's Great grandmother was Princess Maria of Edinburgh who was also Queen Marie of Romania. Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Duke of Edinburgh's official residence was Clarence House, which is now the official London residence of Charles, Prince of Wales
Princess Katarina maternal great great great grandmother was Princess Alice of the United Kingdom the second eldest daughter of Queen Victoria. Her maternal great grandmother was Princess Alice of Battenberg, the mother of her great uncle Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, making her first cousin once removed to Charles, Prince of Wales.
Princess Katarina works with the Prince of Wales's former Butler Grant Harrold through Nicholas Veitch on their royal etiquette classes in the United Kingdom and overseas.[4] They occasionally feature in both national and international media giving advice on royal etiquette.[5] Princess Katarina is the President of the Guild of Travel and Tourism.
