Prince Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark (born 1 October 1969) is the second son and third child of former King Constantine II of Greece and Anne-Marie of Denmark, the youngest daughter of King Frederick IX of Denmark and sister of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.
Biography
Early life and education
He was born in Rome, Italy, due to the coup which ousted the monarchy from Greece and caused the royal family to flee to Italy in December 1967. His father was deposed in 1973, upon the abolishment of the monarchy.
Like his brothers and sisters, he was educated in the Hellenic College of London, founded by his parents in 1980. In 1993, he graduated from Brown University with an A.B. in International Relations. He has worked for NatWest Markets in London and is currently working in his father's private office since 1998. He is a member of board of the Anna-Maria Foundation, designed to help victims of natural disasters like floods and earthquakes in Greece.
Prince Nikolaos has an older sister Princess Alexia, an older brother Crown Prince Pavlos, a younger sister Princess Theodora and a younger brother, Prince Philippos.
Prince Nikolaos was one of a group of European royals at the Slip Inn in Sydney, Australia, during the 2000 Summer Olympics. He was there with his cousins the Crown Prince of Denmark and Prince Joachim of Denmark and Princess Märtha Louise of Norway. It was at the Slip Inn that Frederik met his future wife Mary Donaldson.
Engagement and marriage
Prince Nikolaos's engagement to Tatiana Blatnik, with whom he had been in a long term relationship, was announced on 28 December 2009, by the office of King Constantine in London.[1] Until July 2010, when she resigned to concentrate on her wedding plans, Blatnik had worked in the publicity department as an event planner for fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg.[2][3][4] On her marriage, Tatiana became officially styled in Denmark or by courtesy elsewhere as a Princess Tatiana of Greece and Denmark with the style of Royal Highness.
The couple married in the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, Spetses, Greece on 25 August 2010.[5]
