Pressure Pad was a BBC quiz show, hosted by John Barrowman, that aired on BBC One from 4 November 2013 to 19 September 2014 and BBC Two from 22 September to 3 October 2014.
Format
Two teams of five compete in four head-to-head contests. Losers leave the show entirely, but winners go through for their team to the final contest, which consists of the team captain conferring with the remaining team over a series of four questions.
In the final, the questions are multiple-choice with an increasing number of choices (2 for the first, up to 5 for the final question). Correct answers move on to the next question; wrong answers hand control to the other team who continue with their own, separate set of four questions. The first contestant to correctly answer the fourth question for their side wins.
Series 1
In the first series, the winning team won £2,000. However, the team could then gamble on one final question (with six possible answers) for a rolling jackpot to add to the £2,000 already won. The rolling jackpot started at £1,000 and increased by the same amount in each successive episode until it was won, after which it reverted to £1,000 again. A team who took on the final question and gave the incorrect answer left with nothing.
Series 2 & Celebrity Pressure Pad
From the Celebrity series and second regular series, the rules regarding the end game changed. The team who wins the final no longer wins a guaranteed £2,000, but instead move on to the final question, for which play is now mandatory. A correct answer to this final question wins the rolling jackpot, which now starts at £3,000 and increases by the same amount each show until it is won. Conferring on this final question is not permitted.
