Preetika Rao is an Indian model, a young film-journalist turned actress.[1][2]

Preetika Rao's father owns an Advertising agency in Mumbai while her mother is a housewife. Her elder sister, Amrita Rao, is a Bollywood actress. Preetika graduated majoring in History from Sophia College, while also acquiring a diploma in advertising and journalism.[2][3]

As a Teen-model, Rao started her modeling career with an advertisement for Cadbury Dairy Milk. She features in several big brand-commercials and print campaigns.[4]


In order to pursue her academic degree Rao chose to not take up some big offers from Bollywood that came her way including movies like Jane Tu Jane Naa and Ashiqui-2.[5]


Rao became the youngest journalist to have her own Bollywood column with the popular South Side movie magazine in Chennai where she contributed from Mumbai.[2] During her time as a columnist, Rao also contributed as a film-journalist to articles for Mumbai Mirror, Bangalore Mirror, Deccan Chronicle and Asian Age Mumbai.[2]


While being a film-journalist, Preetika simultaneously made her acting debut in the Tamil romantic film Chikku Bukku (2010), where she played the role of a Tamil Brahmin girl from the 1980s settled in Karaikudi who falls in love. To prepare for her role she took Tamil diction lessons from her grandmother, who was born in Tamil Nadu.[3] She then made her debut in the Telugu film industry with Priyudu (2011). In 2012, Preetika quit South movies for a diploma course in screenplay writing and broadcast journalism from the New York Film Academy.[6]

In 2014, Preetika made the big transition from Regional cinema to National Television in the Hindi series Beintehaa playing the role of Aaliya Zain Abdullah. This popular teleseries was officially released in Pakistan on ARY Zindagi and on Raj Tv dubbed in Tamil for South India.

For her performance, she received the Best Actress Actress Award at the 23rd Annual Kalakar Awards at Kolkatta in January 2015.[7] Along with the Zee Gold Best Debut & The ITA Best Onscreen Couple award in 2014.[8]
