Prayag Raj Express is an Indian Railways express train which runs between the cities of Allahabad and New Delhi, India. It has 24 coaches including 8 air-conditioned coaches (4 3AC, 3 2AC and 1 First AC). It runs on the North Central Railways (Allahabad to New Delhi) section which is part of the busy (Howrah to New Delhi) Grand Trunk section. It is, along with the prestigious Shaan - E - Bhopal Express, one of the "first" ISO 9002 certified trains of India because of its security features and high priority on the Indian Railways. But it takes 2 hours more than Rajdhani Express to cover the same distance. It is also slower than some other superfast trains in this section, but has one of highest commercial speeds among Non-Rajdhani trains.

The normal locomotive of Prayagraj is a WAP 7 electric locomotive from GZB shed. However, it may sometimes get a WAP 5 or WAP 4 due to non-availability of a WAP 7.

Accidents

In dense fog on 2 January 2010, the Gorakhdham Express and Prayagraj Express collided near the Panki railway station in Kanpur, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of Lucknow. Ten people died and about 51 were injured.[1]
