Prashant

Prashant or Prasant is a common boys name faith in India and Nepal. It is derived from the word "shanth" which means patience, quiet, or tranquil. There are two theories as to the origin of the name. The first is simply that adding "pra" creates a superlative of "shanth", so it can be thought of as meaning "Great Peace" (cf. Chinese Taiping). The other is that it is a combination of two words: "Param" + "Shanth" = Prashanth, (meaning very quiet). Prashanth can also mean "Sabse shanth" - Literally translating to a person who can handle anything to do with patience, supremely calm, and figuratively meaning patience, calmness, peace and quietness.

The Pacific Ocean is called the Prashant Mahasagar in Hindi, with the term "Prashant" being used to translate the English word "pacific" (peaceful in character or intent). In southern states in India the name Prashanth is also spelled as Prasanth while the pronunciation remains the same. One more meaning that can be associated to name "Prashanth" is serious. It is often written as prashanth and the name is most common in southern part of India.
