Prakash Bare is an actor and producer in the Indian film industry.[1] He made his acting debut in the 2010 Malayalam film Sufi Paranja Katha and has worked in several critically acclaimed films since then.[2]
Early life
Prakash grew up in Chirakkal, a village in Kannur district and attended Kamala Nehru UP School, Govt Model High School, Valapattanam and Kannur SN College for schooling. He completed B.Tech Electrical Engineering from NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad, Kerala. Prakash was active in dramatics during the college days and has won many accolades including Best Actor awards in Calicut University Interzone festival. He later did a masters in Microelectronics from IIT Kanpur,[3] and spent 15 years in Silicon Valley, California where he worked as a technologist and entrepreneur in the VLSI design and automation industry.[2]
Tech Career
Prakash has held various technology and business positions in electronics design industry in the US and India. He was one of co-founders of GDA Technologies Inc,[4] one of the pioneering Electronic Design Services(EDS) companies. GDA, listed as one of the fastest-growing privately held companies in US by Inc Magazine its annual INC500 list in 2002, was subsequently acquired by L & T Infotech Ltd[5] in March 2007. He is currently involved with multiple technology start-ups in India.[6]
Film career
Prakash Bare has acted in around 20 Malayalam, Kannada and Marathi films over the last 4 years has a production house called Silicon Media,[6][7] which aims to create quality media content of social relevance targeting audience around the world.
Under the banner Silicon Media, Prakash has produced/co-produced critically acclaimed Malayalam films such as Sufi Paranja Katha, Janaki, Ivan Megharoopan, and Papilio Buddha, which depicts the plight of marginalized Dalit communities of Kerala.[8][9] Currently, he is acting in Oraalppokkam, produced by Kazhcha Chalachithra Vedi with Meena Kandasamy[10] in Kedarnath and Uttarakhand areas. This is the first Malayalam movie to be produced through an online crowdfunding program, and is written and directed by Sanalkumar Sasidharan. He is also currently acting in upcoming films Shutter(Marathi), Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal and Brown Nation.
Theater
Silicon Media produced the Malayalam adaptation of the Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot called "Godoye Kaathu" in 2010, where he performed the role of Vladimir. The play was directed by Nandajan K.A., a theatre veteran from Kerala who has directed more than 50 plays in the last two decades, and was staged successfully at many venues throughout Kerala and Karnataka.[11][12] The production house also staged 4Play in 2012, based on the works of Anton Chekhov and Jayaprakash Kulur.
