Power Play is a Big Finish Productions audio drama based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who.

Plot

The Doctor reunites with his former companion, Victoria Waterfield, now crusading against nuclear waste.

Continuity

• Victoria Waterfield was a companion of the Second Doctor, leaving with him after her father was killed. They met in 1866, in the story Evil of the Daleks. Eventually she settled down in the 20th Century, at the end of the story, Fury from the Deep.
• The Terrible Zodin, referenced in this story, is a villain that has never been seen, but has been previously mentioned by the Second Doctor (The Five Doctors), and the Sixth Doctor (Attack of the Cybermen) and other Doctors and companions in various spin-off media.

Notes

• David Warwick was in the 1978 Fourth Doctor television story, The Pirate Planet, as well as the 2006 Tenth Doctor episode, Army of Ghosts.
• Victoria Alcock was in the 2009 Tenth Doctor episode, Planet of the Dead.
• This story was originally titled Meltdown. The interviews for this release explain that it was changed in response to the near-meltdown at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant in Japan.

Critical reception

Doctor Who Magazine reviewer Matt Michael found the play flawed, although not without some "nice touches". ^[1]
