Porki(English: Rogue) is a 2010 Kannada Action film directed by M. D. Shridhar, starring Darshan, Pranitha Subhash and Ashish Vidyarthi in the lead roles. It was also dubbed into Hindi as "Main Hoon Wanted" and in Bhojpuri as "Hamar Bhai Dabbang". It is actually a remake of the 2006 Telugu Blockbuster film Pokiri, starring Mahesh Babu. The film was also remade by Prabhu Deva in 2007, in Tamil as Pokkiri, starring Vijay in the lead role, and also in Hindi as Wanted, in 2009, starring Salman Khan in the lead role. And both these remakes emerged as blockbusters. Porki is the third remake of Pokiri. The film is about a cop who pretends to be a local rogue, in order to nab down the goons and criminals red handed, along with killing them. Ashish Vidyarthi, who played the role of the corrupt and evil policeman in the Telugu original, played the role of the villain Alibhai in this film, which was originally played by Prakash Raj in the Telugu original, along with both the remakes in Tamil and Hindi. The film was shot in 47 days and the film's climax fight took 20 days to be shot.^[1] The cinematography was done by A. V. Krishna Kumar and the editing was done by P. R. Soundar Raj. The action department was handled by K. Ravi Varma and Palaniraj, while the choreography was done by Chinni Prakash, Harsha A and Ramu. The art direction was done by Mohan B. Kere and costume design was done by Nelli. Costumes for Darshan were designed by Subbarao and Nagaraj, while the makeup for Darshan was done by Siddesh and Honne Gowda. The film was produced by Dattatreya Bachchegowda under his banner Datta films.^[2]

The film released on 28 January 2010 to mixed reviews from critics all over, with most critics comparing it to the Telugu original Pokiri. But despite of the mixed responses, the film managed to complete a 100 day run at the Box Office, thus emerging as a Box Office Success.^[3]

Plot summary

Alibhai (Ashish Vidyarthi) is a mafia don and Darshan is a rowdy ready to do any dirty task for money.He comes to Alibhai's gang. He killed many people in the mafia secretly. Anjali (Pranitha Subhash) loves Darshan who saves her from a policeman who intends to make her his wife. Alibhai comes from Dubai and kills the father and brother of Darshan,little knowing that Darshan is a cop. Finally, Dashan kills Alibhai and destroys his gang.

Production

The film's story has been written by Puri Jagannadh, the director of the Telugu original. The screenplay and direction department has been handled by M.D.Shridhar. The dialogues have been written by B.A.Madhu, and the lyrics have been provided by Kaviraj and V.Nagendra Prasad. The film has been produced by Dattatreya Bachchegowda, under his banner Datta Films.^[4]

Censor Ratings

The film got an A Certificate from Censor Board before its release, with its runtime being 154 minutes. Later the film was recertified to get a U/A certificate, for video release, with a total of 109 cuts and the runtime being 128 minutes.^[5]

Critical Reception

The film received generally mixed reviews from critics. The Times of India rated it 3/5^[6] Nowrunning rated it 2.5/5^[7] Rediff.com rated 2.5/5^[8] Filmibeat rated it 3/5.^[9] The Deccan Herald gave a positive review, stating that "The director has remained faithful to the original story byPuri Jagannath, thereby giving unalloyed joy to both action buffs and the sentimental ones."^[10] Indiaglitz rated the film 3.5/5, stating that "For action lovers there cannot be any thing better than Porki".^[11]

Audience Rating

The IMDb site's average user rating is 5.1/10 from 50 users.^[12]

Home Media

The film was released on DVD and VCD by Anand Audio. The film's TV screening rights were sold to Asianet Suvarna. The film was recertified U/A by the Indian Censor Board, for video release.^{[13] [14]}

Dubbed Versions

The film was dubbed and released in Hindi as "Main Hoon Wanted" and in Bhojpuri as "Hamar Bhai Dabbang" by Goldmines Telefilms.^{[15] [16]}

Remakes

The original Telugu film Pokiri, directed by Puri Jagannadh, was remade in several other languages and still found success in the respective regional cinemas. Pokkiri is the first remake. The second one was Wanted, the Hindi version in 2009 which was also directed by Prabhu Deva, Like the two other versions, Wanted had Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia in the lead and has also Prakash Raj as the villain.^[17] Porki is a remake of the Telugu movie Pokiri with Mahesh Babu, and was released in 2010.^[18] Below is an map of the lead actors in the story of Pokiri and its remakes.
