Poovathussery

Poovathussery is a village in the Thrissur and Ernakulam districts of Kerala, in south-west India, situated on the banks of Chalakudy River.

Poovathussery is a beautiful village on the banks of Chalakudy river. Poovathussery belongs to Ernakulam and Thrissur districts in Kerala. Poovathussery is a place of true scenic beauty with rivers, paddy fields, bridges etc. The people here are very friendly. Poovathussery is a developing village with hospitals, schools, banks, good roads etc. People of the older generation are mostly farmers, but the newer generation is spread into almost all areas of life.


Poovathussery durga temple Poovathussery has one of the 108 durga temples, the Poovathussery durga temple. The legend of the temple say that while making the idol for the temple, the sculptor called his wife Karthyayani, the goddess heard the call and appeared in front of him. So at this time sculptor was sculpting the left eye. But the sculptor stopped his work as he feared being cursed if he sculpt on the devi (Goddess). So the left eye is still not sculpted on the idol.
