Pond5
Pond5 is an online marketplace for royalty-free media. The company was founded in 2006 as a way for video producers to license content to third parties.[1] It subsequently expanded into other media types, including photos, music, sound effects, 3D models, and Adobe After Effects templates.[2][3] Pond5 does not itself own the content it represents, but instead aggregates and sells content created and owned by its contributors. These contributors determine the selling price, and earn 50% of revenue.[1][2][3][4]
In March 2013, Pond5 acquired Pixmac, a stock photography site based in the Czech Republic.[2][3] The acquisition added Pixmac’s 6,000+ photographers and support for 17 languages to the Pond5 marketplace [4] In December 2013, the company announced that it had surpassed 2 million video clips, and began accepting REDCODE native R3D files.[5] In January 2014, The Next Web reported that Pond5 had partnered with Adobe to create a plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro integrating its collection with the editing suite.[6]
In July 2014, Pond5 announced its first major venture capital round at $61 million in series A financing by Accel Partners and Stripes Group.[7][8]
