Polgahawela is a small town in north western Sri Lanka. It is most notable for being a major railway junction.

Polgahawela belongs to the North Western Province of Sri Lanka, and is at a distance of 80 km north-east from the capital city of Colombo; 50 km from Kandy; 20 km from Kurunegala; and 65 km from Bandaranayake International Airport. Polgahawela is famous for its railway station, situated at the junction between Sri Lanka Railways' Main line and Northern line.

Polgahawela's railway station is at the heart of the town and lies at the main junction that joins two railway lines; one coming from the upcountry of Sri Lanka and another from the northern part of the country.

The town is notable for a major railway accident that occurred in 2005.
