Pochy y su Cocoband

Pochy Y Su Cocoband, also called Cocoband, was a leading Dominican Republic merengue group in the 1990s. The group was founded in 1987 by Alfonso "Pochy" Vásquez, and had a number of hit albums with the Kubaney label:[1]

Group members in the early years included Kinito Méndez Bobby Rafael, Elvis Class & Silvio Sosa. Each of whom went on to a career of their own. The band lost its sheen around 2000, when Vásquez re-christened it Pochy Familia Y Su Cocoband (2004), and moved away from pure merengue. There was an attempted revival in 2011 but it did not gather momentum.

Hit songs by the group include "La Faldita" (1990), "Chupo Yu, Chupa Tu" (1991), "El Hombre Llego Parao", "Salsa Con Coco". The phrase "Pero Con Coco!" (But With Coco!) was a favorite refrain in several songs.
