"Please Let Me Wonder" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love for American rock band the Beach Boys. The song was the B-side of the single "Do You Wanna Dance?" which was released by The Beach Boys in 1965 through Capitol Records.^[1] It peaked at a number 52 in Billboard and number 46 in Cash Box. The contemporary Gilbert Youth Survey conducted nationally in April 1965 placed this song at number 9 in its chart one week.

Composition

It has been said that "Please Let Me Wonder" was the very first song that Brian Wilson wrote under the influence of marijuana.^[2] The song was first released on the band's 1965 album The Beach Boys Today!. Due to the lyrics, which are filled with a sense of longing and uncertainty, it is, in a sense, a contrasting piece to Wilson's "When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)".^[2]

Live versions

The song was played live by the Beach Boys directly following its release, but only when Brian Wilson was present to perform the lead vocal. This was due to Brian having largely withdrawn from touring and only accompanying the Beach Boys for performances in the media. The song was also played in the 1990s with Bruce Johnston taking over on lead vocals. The song appears on Brian Wilson's 2001 album Live at the Roxy Theatre, the song's first live release. The song was played at most shows on the Beach Boys 50th Anniversary tour with Brian taking his original lead.
