DJ PLayero Vol. 39: Respect, is the third album studio from DJ Playero, recorded and launched in 1995. Considered one of the classic albums of the pre-commercial era of underground reggaeton in Puerto Rico, is one of the most acclaimed productions, because of the change of style, the dedicated production, the introduction of new talents and the consideration of Playero opening the door to the new face of the whole genre.

Due to the fact of Puerto Rico authorities banning his albums and promoting anti-reggaeton messages across the country, Playero DJ realized that he needed to reshaped his style in music and concept with this production. The lyrics concerning drug use and promotion are nearly non-existent, and the singers started to write songs about the dangerous street life, love songs for the female public, and strong affiliations within the Playero crew. This album consolided Playero DJ as the reference for many aspiring reggaeton singers who were trying to launch their careers as reggaeton figures, and the king of dancing reggaeton tracks.

In this edition, the incoming rivalry between Playero and Master Joe, OG Black and Genio started to show, because they felt Playero was giving more importance to new talents like Mexican and leaving the roots of the Villa Carolina Crew behind, developing a feud that extended for more than three years. This is also the first Playero album not to feature Blanco Flake, one of Playero most important singers at the time and most loved personnas in the underground reggaeton culture. Blanco was incarcerated and couldn't meet the recording sessions. Playero took some cuts and loops from previous songs and made a track named "Informa", considered as a homage to Blanco, something he would do in all the following albums until edition 41, including the Playero Street Mix Greatest Hits Street Mix Editions.

Some of the new talents arriving in this album are Manek, Alberto Style, Don Chezina and Mexican, who had great performances and helped Playero to close the gap between underground reggaeton and commercial music, without missing the elements of the genre, using the same beats and samples, but with different rhythims and influences. The romantic tracks have huge influence of jamaican singers and ad-libs, therefore winning more public and offering a different way of recording reggaeton, hence the name "Respect"

On the other hand, this album is also a big game changer for reggaeton as a whole. It was the first album to feature three tracks on a CD oriented production (puerto rican producers used to produce and record their songs in radiocassettes to make the distribution and difussion easier for people to know them in a faster rate), in which the third mix was only available in CD. This strategie was used to gain more sales and help the commercial aspect of the genre to grow. It was the first underground reggaeton production to focus in club dance tracks and to use clean lyrics, recording huge hits and neglecting the drugs and explicit content. This album met the first colaboration between Don Chezina and Rey Pirin, who formed a very respected duo and used to perform live in concerts and parties. The track "Vacilón" features and introduce Alberto Style, a friend of Maicol & Manuel, who were already established as one of the most powerful duo in the scene. Alberto made it big with his performance and periodically showed himself in shows with his friends, forging the Mansion Crew.
