Plant quarantine

Plant quarantine is a technique for insuring diseases- and pest-free plants by isolating them during a period while performing tests for the presence of problems.

In the United States, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) retains this function although the agency’s closely allied border inspection function was transferred to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by P.L. 107-296.
