PixlBit is a video game news, reviews, and features site that covers games on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and PlayStation Portable.

History

PixlBit was started in 2009 by four ex-Nintendo World Report members, Nick & Chessa DiMola, Neal Ronaghan, and Lauren Lewandoski. Carrying the ideals of Nintendo World Report, the group of four sought to provide professionally driven video game coverage for all platforms as opposed to just Nintendo material.[1] Shortly after its inception, Neal Ronaghan (now Director of Nintendo World Report) and Lauren Lewandoski departed the site. After the split, PixlBit continued operation, bringing on a number of volunteer writers to continue to provide top tier independent game coverage.[2]

Before E3 2011, the site launched a brand new template[3] to accommodate their changing needs, which was then again updated later in the year.[4] After user demand, user blogs were added to the site in November,[5] augmenting the already present user functions which include commenting and game collection tracking.

Content

PixlBit offers content that spans the standard of game reviews, previews, hands-on impressions, special features, and news. Additionally, the site runs a variety of ongoing features that are similarly themed. Review Rewinds offer a look back on retro games, or simply games that came out a while ago. They'll often focus how the game holds up in time and after the hype. The Tour de 64 steps through each and every game in the Nintendo 64 catalog, offering back story on the game, a description of its contents, and a short impression on its gameplay. Missing in Action (MIA)[6] looks back on games or franchises from generations past that are in need of being brought back from the dead, despite the publishers lack of plans to do so.

Multimedia coverage is also a cornerstone of the site. Each Monday night, Jason Ross chooses a recently released or relevant game and plays it live for a short period of time in what's called a PlayBit.[7] PixlTalk is the site's bi-weekly podcast, and PB & Jason, also hosted by Jason Ross, is a weekly running podcast focused only on current events.[8]
