Pirate's Grog is a golden rum from Roatan, an island 129 km off the coast of Honduras.[1] It is distributed in the UK by Pirate's Grog Rum Ltd, and named after the first recorded version of a mixed drink called 'grog', which was created by Sir Admiral Edward Vernon in 1740. To create 'grog' one quart of water would be added to half a pint of navy strength rum (57% ABV).[2] Thus creating a rum with strength of around 37.5% ABV. Lime and sugar would also be added to the drink for sweetness and to help wade off scurvy.

Product description and packaging

Pirate's Grog Rum is blended on the Caribbean island of Roatan, which is a member of The Bay Islands Department off the coast of Honduras. Roatan is famed for its pirate history [3] and lies on the second largest coral reef in the world. The rum is distilled from molasses made from Caribbean-grown sugar cane. It is aged in the Caribbean in bourbon barrels for upto 5 years giving Pirate's Grog a rich golden colour and infusing flavours of bourbon, vanilla, raisin and butterscotch.[4]
