The next year the club would finish third place and so play in a promotional play off with clubs Lobos and Aguilas B. As a result the club would be promoted to the Segunda B[1] but the owner decided to buy a franchise in the Segunda A which would allow them to play for a chance to be promoted to the Primera División de México.

Playing in the Segunda A the club came close many times but fail in there attempts to be promoted and in the early 1990s the city cut resources and so the club once aging fell to the inferior divisions. In the mid-1990s the club changed its name to Tucanes de Cancun but fail to gain popularity and so force was forced to changed the name back to its original namePioneros.
