Pione Sisto Ifolo Emirmija[1] (born 4 February 1995) is a Danish footballer, born in Uganda by Southern Sudanese parents. He plays as a left midfielder for Superliga side FC Midtjylland.

Sisto has lived in Denmark since he was two months old and has Danish citizenship.[2]

Career

Pione Sisto made his league debut during the 2012–13 Danish Superliga season and scored his first professional goal during the same season in the match against AGF of Århus. On 2 March 2014 he scored two winning goals in FC Midtjylland's 5-1 away victory over FC Copenhagen in the Danish Superliga. He also scored twice in the 3-1 win over Randers in Superligaen on 4 August 2014 as well as in the 2-0 win against FCN in Superligaen 31 October 2014 .

FC Midtjylland's team manager Glen Riddersholm has compared him with the Danish international and English Premier League player Christian Eriksen.

In the summer 2014 he renewed his contract with FC Midtjylland until 2019, in spite of interest from teams like Lille, Marseille, Napoli, Juventus and Red Bull Salzburg, one of which offered more than 2 million euros.[3] He is represented by his agent Jonas Ankersen.

Danish national team manager Morten Olsen expressed his hope that Pione Sisto would soon be eligible for the national squad . This happened when Sisto received his Danish citizenship in December 2014. He was immediately chosen to represent the Danish U21 team, although in an unofficial match.

In December 2014, Sisto was voted "Player of the Year 2014" by the Danish Footballers' Association and "Profile of the Autumn 2014" by the Danish Football Magazine, Tipsbladet .
