Pinson Valley High School

Coordinates: 33°42′12.25″N 86°40′10.32″W / 33.7034028°N 86.6695333°W Pinson Valley High School is a public high school located in Pinson, Alabama. It is a part of the Jefferson County Board of Education.

School information

Pinson Valley High School was established in 1972. Its school colors are Garnet and Vegas gold and its mascot is the Indian. It is the fifth largest high school in the Jefferson County School System.[1] Current enrollment is over 1,000 students. Its current principal is Dr. Terrence Brown with assistants Karen Mardis, Coy McIntosh, John Prestridge, and Greg Moore. The school's yearbook is the Chieftain.

Fine Arts and Science Center

In 2008, a new Fine Arts and Science Center was added to the school. The auditorium seats 670 in a state-of-the-art facility. Among many other events, shows presented by PVHS Theatre, the school's Dramatic Arts program.

The Fine Arts Center also houses the Pinson Valley Marching Chiefs, the school's award winning marching band which is directed by Adam Bearden and Keith Brandenburg, and the PVHS Choir program.

Other facilities

The school also consists of the Willie Adams Stadium, two gymnasiums (including the Mike Dutton Gymnasium), academic classrooms, a fine arts center, and a lunchroom.

Sport

The athletic department fields teams in football, volleyball, cross country, basketball, wrestling, baseball, soccer, softball, golf, and tennis. The school has won many AHSAA County Championships and the Pinson Valley Indians football team won Area Championships (different from Regional) in 1998 and 1999.[2] It is currently a 6A-R5 school. Football coached by Matt Glover. Boys basketball coached by Clint Argo. Wrestling coached by Gene Richardson.[3]
