Pine Lake Preparatory

Pine Lake Preparatory is a charter school located in Mooresville, North Carolina, educating students in grades k-12 PLP has Elementary, Middle, and Upper schools on the same campus. PLP was founded in 2006 and started with Kindergarten, first, and second grades, and in 2007 began building for all thirteen grades (K-12) and started their first year with only 12 grades (K-11) and 1300 students in 2008.[1] PLP has five fine arts in Upper and Middle School to choose from (strings, band, art, theatre, and chorus). Now, the school has a Fine Arts Building: Where all the Middle and Upper School students can do their fine art class in. Students also must take a Spanish class every year. There is also an Athletic Community Center (ACC): Where all the students can do P.E. and have home sports games.

Staff Enrollment

The staff at PLP has a unique way of governing the small school in Mooresville. Each school, the Lower, Middle, and Upper schools, have individual 'head of schools.' These individuals include Gloria Miller (Lower School), Andrew Moceri (Middle School), and Christopher Scholl (Upper School). As this may seem normal to the average student, staff, or parent, the school also has an overall head of school, Chris Terrell, who, like the other head of schools, are in charge of the schools. But, unlike Gloria, Andrew, and Christopher, Chris has a more important job to do - he is the head of school of the entire school (K-12). Head of schools are in charge of field trips, school events, and student behavior. Of course, this is not all of the staff, but a general description of the principal system healed at the school. Other jobs include: registrar, dean, administrative associate, and of course the most important job of a teacher.

Education

Students at PLP are very striving and generally make good grades. In 2009, the average grade of all students was a 91%. This may seem a shock to some, but upper schoolers, like most high schoolers, make a lot of effort but get a lower grade than opposed to middle and lower school. This means that the average fir both middle and lower schools are at about an A, or very high B. Teachers at PLP are very nice and support children all throughout the learning process. Need help? Ask a teacher. They'll be there to tutor you into success and achieve what most kids want - an A. Although the students effort contributes to the high grade levels involving PLP, it is really the high educated gifted teachers that are presented before the children every day to teach something new and exciting. Each student has their own PowerSchool account where teachers post homework, grades, and what the students will be doing in each class. Edmodo has been released to PLP quite recently in the year of 2013-2014. Now, students are given the choice to either use technology for assignments, or they can simply ask for a paper copy and to it the old-school way. Students online can turn in assignments, tests, projects, and homework, and make the schooling experience easier for both students, parents, and teachers. PLP has received many education rewards and has one of the highest average SAT scores in the area, average being 1105.

Buildings

PLP has a variety of building all used for educational purposed - the Lower School, Middle School, Upper School, Fine Arts Building, the ACC, Houston House, and snow cone shack. At first, PLP had held their school at a church down the road. This school had only children in Kindergarten through Second Grade. The year went by fast, and the next year, a Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School. building was finally made. This made it possible to transition to from just three grades, to all 13, (K-12). After all schools were made, the room became small for the school as it grew, despite the new schools. PLP was not done growing. Classrooms were shared, PE was in classrooms and undesignated areas outside, and it felt to cramped to have a striving school but not have the appropriate space. The ACC was built including a multi-purpose room, a gym that could be a basketball or volleyball court, a weight room, locker rooms for boys and girls, and a concession stand. For the first time, basketball and volleyball participants had a home game at home. Another building was made for Fine Arts. This Fine Arts building has classrooms for Art, Chorus, Drama, Percussion, and Strings. These building made it easier to learn, and was a great benefit for the school.
