"Photograph" is the fifth single from English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran's multi-award winning second studio album x. [1] It features production from hip hop producers Jeff Bhasker and Emile Haynie and was co-written by Sheeran and Snow Patrol member Johnny McDaid.

Background and release

In February 2013, Sheeran played a demo version of the song to a German radio station without being recorded. He commented that he thought it would change his career path.[2] The song was released as an "instant grat" digital download to the iTunes Store on 20 June 2014, serving as the seventh of seven promotional singles from his second studio album, x (2014). It entered the UK Singles Chart at number 44, ten months before the official single release.

Critical reception

The Daily Telegraph's Neil McCormick commented that Sheeran "can slip smoothly through the gears" during the album, describing the song as "soulful balladry."[3] Capital FM praised the song, describing it as "hauntingly beautiful" and "an ode to a girl waiting at home for her man to come back."[4]
