Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences is a fortnightly peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Royal Society. It publishes original research in a wide range of physical scientific disciplines. Articles can be accessed online a few months prior to the printed journal. All articles become freely accessible two years after their publication date. The current editor-in-chief is Dave Garner (University of Nottingham).
Overview
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A publishes themed issues covering a specific area of the mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences. Each themed issue is guest edited. Past issue titles include "Physics at the high-energy frontier: the Large Hadron Collider project", "Four degrees and beyond: the potential for a global temperature increase of four degrees and its implications", "The sustainable planet: opportunities and challenges for science, technology and society", and "Crossing boundaries: computational science, e-Science and global e-Infrastructure".
History
The journal was established in March 1665 as Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. In 1887, the journal expanded to become two separate publications: Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B (biological sciences) and Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A (physical sciences).
Impact
According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2013 impact factor is 2.864, ranking it 9th out of 55 journals in the category "Multidisciplinary Sciences".[1]
