Philipp von Cobenzl (1741-1810)

Johann Philipp, Graf von Cobenzl (28 May 28, 1741, Laibach - 30 August 1810, Vienna, Austrian Empire) was a Carniolan nobleman, working as a diplomat of the Habsburg Monarchy and the Austrian Empire. His parents were Count Guidobald von Cobenzl (1716–97) and Countess Maria Benigna von Montrichier.[1][2] He worked as the ambassador of the Habsburg Monarchy in Paris till his retirement in 1805, and then lived in Vienna. He greatly contributed to the education and career of the Neoclassicist painter Franz Caucig.[3] In 1809, he informed Napoleon Bonaparte about the demographics of the newly established Illyrian Provinces.

Notes

Regarding personal names: Graf is a title, translated as Count, not a first or middle name. The female form is Gräfin.
