Phil Shawe
Phil Shawe (born August 18, 1969) is the co-CEO of TransPerfect.[1] He founded the company with Elizabeth Elting in 1992. TransPerfect is an industry leader with more than 2,800 employees and offices in 85 cities worldwide, providing technology solutions including translation-related technologies, website localization solutions, e-clinical solutions for life sciences organizations, and litigation support technology
Early Life
Shawe was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Irvin and Shirley Shawe. After completing high school at Palm Beach Gardens High, he attended the University of Florida, where he majored in finance, marketing and risk management. He earned a Master’s in Business Administration from New York University's (NYU) Stern School of Business, where he focused on finance and international business.[2]
Professional
Shawe began his business career while still in high school, selling appliances at Sears. While in college at the University of Florida, Shawe sold real estate during summer vacations. He later worked as a financial analyst at Chemical Bank and a global custody consultant at Merrill Lynch. Shawe co-founded TransPerfect in 1992 with an NYU classmate, Liz Elting.[3] Originally based out of Shawe and Elting’s dorm rooms, TransPerfect is a privately held provider of language and business services.
In 2001, Shawe and Elting received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the success of both TransPerfect Translations, their original document translations company, and Translations.com, a globalization and enterprise language services company that Shawe and Elting created in 1999.[2]
Crain’s New York Business named Shawe to its “40 Under Forty” list in 2008.[4]
