Origin
The Phalkes are Chandravanshi Maratha Kshatriyas.
History
Phalkes are vatandar Marathas from Satara District and rest of Maharashtra. Much prior history of them was not illuminated. However, they were related to ancient Maratha clans like Kadam, Bhoite, Shinde, Nikam in their capacity. This fact recognize that the early clansmen of the clan were enjoyed the political and martial status among marathas. The Maval region had Deshmukhs among them Maral Deshmukh subclan derives their origine from Phalke clan. The rise of Phalke family among Maratha history is mainly because of Shinde rulers of Gwalior on whom they have intermarried. It is noted that Principality of Nagpur Bhosale also recruited the Phalkes for intermarriages alighning their status. Phalkes served the deccan sultanates and remained faithful and loyal to maratha kingdom from its start to the collapse. The Gwalior, Nagpur, Kolhapur and such Maratha principalities were served by them.
