Petrus Kiers

Petrus Kiers (1807, Meppel – 1875, Amsterdam), was a 19th-century painter from the Northern Netherlands.

Biography

According to the RKD he moved to Amsterdam in 1820 where he married the painter Elisabeth Alida Haanen.[1] He was a member of the Amsterdam artist collectives Arti et Amicitiae from 1839 and Kunstbevorderend Genootschap V.W.[1] He won a silver medal in 1841 in a competition at Felix Meritis for a romantic painting of a washerwoman.[1] He was the father of the painters George Lourens Kiers and Catharina Kiers.[1] He is known for still lifes and genre works with romantic candlelight scenes.[1]
