Petrie is a suburb north of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Its local government area is the Moreton Bay Region. It is in the North Pine River section of its local council 24 kilometres north of Brisbane City.
The origin of the suburb name is from an early inhabitant by the name of Tom Petrie. The township was named Petrie after his death. Prior to this, the area was known as North Pine. Tom Petrie was a highly regarded individual in the area through his community work and his cooperation with the local Aboriginal inhabitants.[1]
Petrie is a suburban village with new housing developments on land which was previously used for pine plantations and agriculture.[2] Petrie railway station provides access to regular Citytrain services to Brisbane and Ipswich, as well as Caboolture and the Sunshine Coast.
The residential estates of Frenchs Forest and Petrie-on-Pine are located in this area.

In the 2011 Census the population of Petrie is 8,499, 50.3% female and 49.7% male.
The median/average age of the Petrie population is 34 years of age, 3 years below the Australian average.
78.6% of people living in Petrie were born in Australia. The other top responses for country of birth were England 5.9%, New Zealand 4.6%, South Africa 1%, Scotland 0.6%, Philippines 0.6%.

Community groups
Petrie has a number of very active community groups including:
- The Phoenix Masonic Lodge is the oldest masonic lodge in the area, founded in 1894 has counted amongst its members quite a few of the most notable characters in the Pine Rivers (North Pine) area. Since 1929 Phoenix Lodge has been meeting at the Petrie Masonic Centre in Whites Road, Petrie.

Economy
Large industries in Petrie include Boral Quarries and Amcor Paper Mill (in February 2013 Amcor announced the closure, in September, of the mill[6]). The Automotive industry plays [7] a major part in the Petrie economy amongst other small businesses. Village Motors [8] is the only OEM Holden[9] & Nissan [10] Dealer in Petrie Village.The Gympie Road, Dayboro Road and Anzac Avenue roundabout junction and surrounding area encompass the town centre which includes retail, commerce and mechanical industries.
Attractions
Tourism in Petrie is mainly focused on recreation. The North Pine Country markets operate each Sunday from 8:00am – 2:00pm on Dayboro road. Recreational activities such as bushwalking, canoeing, fishing and horseriding take place. Signage at Wyllie Park on the Lawnton / Petrie border provides information relating to tourism in the area.
