Peter Wisgerhof (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈpeɪ̯.tər ˈʋɪs.χə.rɔf]) (born 19 November 1979 in Wageningen, Gelderland) is a Dutch former footballer who played as a centre back for Vitesse, NEC and FC Twente.

Career

Club career

Wisgerhof made his debut in professional football, being part of the Vitesse squad in the 1999–00 season. He was allowed to sign on loan with N.E.C. for half a year. He then signed permanently with N.E.C., and he then played nine seasons for NEC Nijmegen, until making a switch in 2009 to FC Twente who had sold defender Robbie Wielaert to Ajax Amsterdam. Wisgerhof signed a contract with Twente for 3,5 years.[1] Here he has quickly played himself into the squad. In his second season, Twente became Dutch league champions. In the summer of 2010 he became captain, after Blaise Nkufo left Twente for the Seattle Sounders FC. At the start of the season, he and Twente won the Johan Cruijff Shield after defeating Ajax Amsterdam with a 1-0 victory. In 2011, Twente came second in the Dutch Eredivisie, behind Ajax, but beat Ajax in the Johan Cruijff Shield match. Wisgerhof played a notable role in this victory as he was claimed to have made an obvious schwalbe (dive), which was much commented on in the local and international press.[2]

National team

Wisgerhof played 13 times for the Netherlands national under-21 football team and scored 1 goal. On the 10th of October 2010 Bert van Marwijk called up Wisgerhof at age 30 for the National squad match on the 17th of November against Turkey. In the second half of the match, Wisgerhof made his debut as a substitution for the injured Joris Mathijsen.
