Peter Wilkinson (born Leslie Peter Wilkinson,[1] 9 May 1969) in an English musician from Liverpool who has played for artists such as Shack, Cast, and Echo & the Bunnymen.
Biography
He is best known as the bass player with Cast, whom he co-founded with frontman John Power in 1992 and was a member of until the band disbanded in 2002, and Shack. Since Cast split in 2001, Wilkinson has performed with a number of other artists including Ian McCulloch,[2] Echo & the Bunnymen,[3] Canadian songwriter/vocalist Simon Wilcox[4] and The Hours with whom he took on lead guitar duties.[5]
Although having taught himself to play bass at an early age by listening to bands such as The Stranglers and Siouxsie and the Banshees, Wilkinson soon took an interest in jazz and went on to tour the jazz scene around Manchester, Liverpool and North Wales and gained a college diploma in the genre before coming to the realisation that he would never be able to move out of the small clubs he was already playing whilst playing jazz.[6]
In October 2002, Wilkinson released a solo album Huxley Pig Part 1 through The Viper Label under the guise of Aviator.[7] In 2005, he rejoined the reformed Shack, who have since released two albums on Noel Gallagher's record label, Sour Mash.[8]
Wilkinson currently composes and performs music for TV commercials.[5]
Cast reformed for a UK tour in November 2010.
