Peter Marx is the first Chief Innovation Technology officer for the city of Los Angeles. He was appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on February 4th, 2014.[1] His tasks include improving the MyLA311 mobile application; revamping the City's scores of web sites to make them more useful and user-friendly; and using data to upgrade performance throughout City government.[2]

Education

A native of Los Angeles, Marx studied at the University of California, Los Angeles. He received a B.A. in English Literature.

Career

Before joining the Mayor's Office, Marx served as the Vice President of Business Development at Qualcomm Labs, Inc, where he focused on making smartphones more aware of users' environments. In particular, he was involved in developing the company's Gimbal platform, which improves processing of smartphone sensor information.[3]

Marx has worked on the digital and technology side of Mattel, along with media-technology consultancy Analog Protocol; Vividenti-Universal Games; Universal Studios; Electronic Arts; UCLA, and 3M.[4]

He serves as an adjunct professor for the Peter Stark Producing Program at the USC School of Cinematic Arts teaching digital media and entertainment to graduate film and TV students.[5]
