Persian-speakers of Afghanistan

Native Persian-speakers of Afghanistan make up between 30-35% of the population in the country. The dialect of Persian language spoken in Afghanistan is called Dari and is the official coined name as well. Pashto and Dari are the two official languages of Afghanistan. Dari is spoken by around 50% of the population according the CIA World Factbook,^[1] and understood by an even larger part of the population as it functions as the lingua franca. Pashto, the other (and first) official language, is spoken by around 35% of the population according the CIA World Factbook,^[2] despite the fact that Pashtuns are by far the largest and most dominant ethnic group in Afghanistan.
