Periya Negamam is a panchayat town in Coimbatore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Periya Negamam had a population of 7680. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Periya Negamam has an average literacy rate of 67%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 58%. In Periya Negamam, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age. It consists of several villages. Some of the popular villages are Senguttaipalayam is the birthplace of Bharat Ratna Chidambaram Subramaniam(commonly known as CS ), Senior Congressional leader, Father of Green Revolution in India, Former Minister of Finance and Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, Former Union Minister for Food, Agriculture and Finance, Government of India and Former Governor of Maharashtra State. K. V. Kandaswamy known as popularly known as "Negamam Napolean", was returned to the Assembly from this constituency thrice on an AIADMK ticket.He was widely considered to be the right hand of the CM, Dr M. G. Ramachandran.In the 1977 election he defeated the then DMK cabinet minister M. Kannappan.[2] Avalappampatti, Konde goundan palayam, Chinna Negamam,Kakkadavu (hub of coir industries)etc..
