The Long-nosed bandicoots (genus Perameles) are members of the Peramelemorphia order.
Perameles, or ‘pouched badger’, is a hybrid word, from the Greek pera (πήρα, ‘pouch, bag’) and the Latin mēles (‘marten, badger’).[3]

- Western Barred Bandicoot (P. bougainville)
- Eastern Barred Bandicoot (P. gunnii)
- Long-nosed Bandicoot (P. nasuta)
