Route 524 begins at an intersection with Route 407 (North Abington Road) in the Carpenter Town area of North Abington Township. This intersection is within the boundaries of Lackawanna State Park. Route 524 heads to the northeast, paralleling Route 407 as Kennedy Creek Road through the park until the intersection with Rowland Road, where Route 524 heads eastward. A short distance after Rowlands Road, the highway leaves Lackawanna State Park. Route 524 winds through residences and fields south of East Benton, soon entering the hamlet of Craig. In Craig, there are a couple residences south of where Quadrant Route 4003 (Manning Road) terminates and Quadrant Route 4007 (Craig Road) begins. At Craig Road, Route 524 turns eastward out of Craig, crosses an intersection with Stone Road, and enters Scott Township. Just beyond the township line, the road reaches Exit 199 of Interstate 81. Crossing under Interstate 81, the highway heads uphill and intersects with Route 347 (Justus Boulevard), which terminates. Route 524 turns onto the right-of-way for Route 347 and heads northward paralleling Interstate 81 through Scott Township. Passing several residences, Route 524 terminates at an intersection with Route 438 (Montdale Road).[2]
