Pen-y-Bont FC (Welsh: Clwb Pêl-droed Pen-y-Bont) is a Welsh football club formed in 2013 following the merger of Bridgend Town F.C. and Bryntirion Athletic F.C. and plays in the Welsh Football League Division One.

Pen-y-Bont will play their home matches at Bryntirion Park, whilst retaining the Brewery Field as an alternative venue which meets Football Association of Wales ground standards, should the club be promoted to the Welsh Premier League.

The club has installed third generation artificial turf at Bryntirion Park and the Bridgend College Football Academy in Pencoed. This will allow the club to maintain a high pitch quality standard in adverse conditions and was funded through the sale of Bridgend Town's former Coychurch Road ground to superstore giant ASDA. [1]

Inaugural 2013/2014 Season


The club began the season with a stretch of away games as the 3G pitch installation was incomplete until January, 2014. The merged clubs' first league game was away against Ton Pentre F.C., the result of which was a narrow 1-0 loss. [2]

The new pitch was officially opened by ex Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay on January 7th, 2014 with a friendly game played against a Cardiff Developmental XI on the same afternoon. Cardiff's development team won the match 5-0. [3] [4]

The club ended their inaugural season in a respectable third place in Welsh League Division One. [5]

2014/15 Season

On 18th January 2015 the club announced that it had reached a sponsorship agreement with Bridgend-based KYMCO Healthcare UK which included stadium naming rights. Bryntirion Park would be renamed The KYMCO Stadium as part of the deal.[6]
