Peiying Primary School (simplified Chinese: 培英小学）is a primary school located in 651 Yishun Ring Road (768687), near to Khatib MRT, Singapore. It is located just beside Naval Base Secondary School.
History
Peiying Primary School is one of the oldest schools in Nee Soon. It has its beginning in 1919 when one of the pioneers of Singapore, Mr Lim Nee Soon, set up the Fa Chu School. In the 1930s, Fa Chu School was renamed Zang Hua School when it moved to Kangkar (also in the Nee Soon area). In 1941, the directors of Zang Hua School decided to merge with another school, Qi Zhi School, so that the school would have bigger premises. The merged school was renamed Poi Eng School, converted into a Government-aided school and was then located at Upper Thomson Road (Next to the Former Seletar Institute).
For the next 40 years, Poi Eng School provided Chinese medium education to the children either for free or at a subsidized rate. In 1979, with the shift to bilingual education at the national level, Poi Eng started to offer English as a medium of instruction. In 1987, Poi Eng School was relocated to its current site at Yishun Ring Road. It was renamed Peiying Primary School (the hanyu pinyin version of Poi Eng). In Chinese, "Poi Eng" or "Peying" means "to nurture citizens for nation-building".
