Peel High School is a co-educational, Public high school, located in Tamworth, a city in the North West region of New South Wales, Australia.

Established in 1976, the school is a rural comprehensive high school with a focus on technology, and currently enrols approximately 500 students from Year 7 to 12.[1]

Peel High School is a school of the New South Wales Department of Education and Training (DET), and prepares students for the School Certificate (Year 10), and the Higher School Certificate (Year 12).

History

Established in 1976, Peel High School was named after Sir Robert Peel, an important British politician at the time of the discovery of the Tamworth region, by British settlers in Australia. On the first of February,1977, Peel High School occupied its temporary premises at the rear of Hillvue Public School in demountable buildings while permanent buildings were being constructed at the Gunnedah road site.

Curriculum

The school provides a broad curriculum, with links to the community, parents, Technical and Further Education (TAFE), local businesses and local government schools.[1]

Strong in academic and sporting areas, Peel High School aims to provide an inclusive curriculum and environment, where students can achieve their best.[1]

The school provides for a wide range of students. It has three special needs classes, Aboriginal education, and is responsible for the offsite annex, Tamworth Tutorial Centre, which caters for students from local schools with conduct disorders.[1]

Achievements

Peel High School is a leading school in Agriculture. It has had success over many years with Suffolk Sheep and Angus Cattle along with poultry breeding and showing. [3] Peel High School is a registered breeder of Suffolk Sheep,[4] and has won a number of first prizes at the Sydney Royal Easter Show including Grand Champion Ram, Grand Champion Ewe, Champion Schools Exhibit and most successful school.[5]
