History
The company's first store was opened in Lawrenceville, Virginia, in 1891 by W.S. Peebles, Sr., the company's founder.[1] Peebles operates stores mostly in small to medium-sized areas of the eastern and upper-midwestern United States areas of Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Florida, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. It has been owned by Stage Stores since 2003.[2]
