Pebbles, Volume 3 is a compilation album in the Pebbles series that has been issued on both LP and CD formats. The tracks are rare psychedelic rock songs, and the album is subtitled The Acid Gallery. Another Pebbles, Volume 3 was issued on CD a few years earlier by ESD Records and has almost completely different tracks, although their Pebbles, Volume 2 has many of the same songs as this album.

Release data

This album was released on BFD Records, in 1979. AIP Records kept the LP in print for many years.

AIP Records issued this volume in CD format in 1992. Although having a different cover, the two formats are largely the same album and even have similar catalogue numbers.

Two box sets of the first five volumes of the Pebbles series have also been released, the Pebbles Box on LP (in 1987) and the Trash Box on CD (in 2004).

Omitted Tracks on the CD

CD cover

When AIP Records issued the early volumes of CDs, they omitted some tracks from the corresponding LP for the stated reason that they were already widely available on other anthologies. In this case, the "bonus track" is omitted, along with "Soggy Cereal", by Mike Condello. The other tracks on the LP are included on the CD, although the opening cut has a different song name and a slightly different band name, and the order of the songs is different.

Notes on the tracks

This album has among the most bizarre songs in the psychedelic rock genre, such as "Horror Asparagus Stories" and "Voices Green and Purple" – both of which have been covered several times over the years – and a weird take on Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" by Race Marbles. A cover of Kim Fowley's "The Trip" by Godfrey is also included, even though Fowley's original recording is on Pebbles, Volume 1. The track "Loose Lip Sync Ship" is actually performed by The Chocolate Watchband under the nom de plume The Hogs.

On this LP, "Flight Reaction," "Loose Lip Sync Ship" and "The Reality of (Air) Fried Borsk" have a delay echo added to them; also, "Loose Lip Sync Ship" has a stuck needle in the groove about halfway through. These problems were corrected on the CD version. Additionally, while "Horror Asparagus Stories" is listed on both the cover and label of the BFD LP, the song actually is missing from the album.
