PAUSE is the first live album by P-MODEL.

Overview

It was recorded at the ERROR OF INFORMATION Wait (ERROR OF INFORMATION 待機 ERROR OF INFORMATION Taiki) show, which was the last show performed by the "Defrosted" P-MODEL. Other performers at the show were acts of P-MODEL members:[1] HERE IS EDEN, a band created by P-MODEL bassist/keyboardist/vocalist Katsuhiko Akiyama; 4-D mode1, which includes former P-MODEL member Tadahiko Yokogawa and future P-MODEL member Kenji Konishi; KATANA; CoP-MODEL (コP-MODEL), a group created by P-MODEL keyboardist/bassist/vocalist Teruo Nakano for the Errors of P-MANIA! competition; Phnonpenh MODEL, a group created by P-MODEL keyboardist/vocalist Hikaru Kotobuki for the Errors of P-MANIA! competition; THE GROOVERS, whose co-founder/drummer Yasuchika Fujii was also the P-MODEL drummer; and Hirasawa performing solo, playing two songs from AURORA months before the album's release.[2]

The album showcases the group in its "Defrosted" period and how it adapted its songs from albums to live shows (mostly songs from P-MODEL and big body, including one exclusive opening theme by Kotobuki and old P-MODEL songs in the "Defrosted" style, which had no official release of their own then). It is named PAUSE due to the electronic gear used by the band going partially dead almost halfway through the show. The album's liner notes, written by Hirasawa, tell of a "Warrior of Electricity" (implied to be P-MODEL before it was "frozen") and his position in the "Age of Information" (implied to be the then present 90s).[3] It was the second release of the SYUN label (although it was released at the same time as the SYUN compilation album OOPARTS and the P-MODEL demo).

BIASTECHNOLOGIST

A short instrumental composition used to open the show; the group has written various other song on this style, such as "junglebed I" and "OPENING SE 1992".

SOLID AIR

A rearrangement of the original from Perspective in the "Defrosted" style; it uses elements from the "Dance Version" and adds a guitar solo.

SPEED TUBE

The opening sounds double-tracked, drums have more prominence and is more blippy and rawer than the original.

CLUSTER

Longer than the original and adds a guitar solo that continues through the whole second half of the song.

MATURNIG BOX

Has a drum-led opening, prominently unfiltered vocals, semi-prominent guitar and constant microphone feedback.

FU-RU-HE-HE-HE

A rearrangement of the original from the REBEL STREET compilation/ANOTHER GAME album in the "Defrosted" style; has Katsuhiko Akiyama playing bass, which he played as his main instrument on his first tenure with P-MODEL (although this song was written after he left the group); the song also features Kotobuki doing effects with his filtered microphone.

WELCOME TO THE HOUSE OF "TIME'S LEAKING THROUGH EQUAL DISTANCE CURVE"

Has a prominent blippy, double-tracked sound, echoed backing/sampled vocals and a new drum-led bridge.

GRID

Is stopped halfway through due to "Machine Trouble", which gives the album its title; the guitar parts are more prominent than the album version.

WIRE SELF

Segues from GRID, with its AMIGA intro starting at the end of GRID; the guitar parts are more prominent than the album version, Hirasawa's vocals are rawer, there is a new synth line and a lead-in to CHEVRON.

CHEVRON

Has less prominent drumming, a double-tracked sound, a longer, blippy lead-in to the guitar solo, which lasts longer than the original and effects placed through the whole song.

JOURNEY THROUGH YOUR BODY

Has Akiyama singing both filtered and unfiltered vocals; the synth parts also have a fading effect. Lyrics were included in this album's liner notes, which weren't included in big body.

BIG FOOT

Has more prominent drumming and synth lines, new effects, a different guitar solo and a lead-in to 2D OR NOT 2D.

2D OR NOT 2D

Has rawer guitar lines, rawer vocals by Hirasawa, more prominent effects and more prominent drumming.

LAB=01

Has echoed synth lines, rawer guitar lines, more prominent effects and more prominent drumming.

BLUEPRINT

A rearrangement of the original from Potpourri in the "Defrosted" style; does not have the constant "oh"s of the original (only being uttered once), has Hirasawa singing harshly (similarly to the way he did in the original), highly prominent effects, guitar and drum lines.

STONE AGE!

Starts with Hirasawa delivering a speech over the song's intro, which lasts longer than the original, has more effects (one taking more prominence over the rest of the song when building up to its end), a double-tracked sound, Hirasawa's vocals during the verses being more harshly whispered than the original and the vocals during the chorus being more shouted. The song ends at the 4:33 mark, with the remaining time being audio of the audience's clapping and guitar fidgeting sounds, at the 6:43 mark, the audience can be heard cheering as the band returns for the encore.

ZEBRA

A rearrangement of the original from ONE PATTERN in the "Defrosted" style; it features filtered vocals by Kotobuki, AMIGA narration, the bridge having a stringed sound, sparse effects and ends with Hirasawa saying "domo arigato", the audience clapping and a few seconds of sampled Hirasawa voice. A harsher studio version was included in The Way of LIVE album.
