Paulo Jorge Vieira Alves (born 5 May 1981), known as Paulo Jorge, is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays mainly as a right midfielder.

Club career

Paulo Jorge was born in Maia, Porto District. After six seasons with second division side F.C. Maia (including loan spells in the lower leagues with Pedrouços A.C. and F.C. Infesta), he ended up making a move to Porto's Boavista F.C. for the 2005–06 campaign.

After a fantastic top flight spell at the Axadrezados ("Chequereds"), where he became a key figure leading the right flank whilst scoring four league goals, clubs like Valencia CF and PSV Eindhoven envied Jorge's services but, after turning down an offer from champions F.C. Porto, he joined S.L. Benfica in July 2006.[1] In his first game with the Lisbon team he netted the Reds' only goal against AEK Athens F.C. in a pre-season 1–3 defeat, after which he started in UEFA Champions League matches against FK Austria Wien and F.C. Copenhagen, the latter in the group stage.[2]

However, after having appeared sparingly for Benfica during the league season, Paulo Jorge was loaned to Spanish club Málaga CF, which achieved La Liga promotion in 2008 – he shared team with countrymen Eliseu and Hélder Rosário during his stint.[3]

In mid-July 2008 Jorge was definitely sold, joining fellow league side C.S. Marítimo in Madeira.[4] He scored his first official goal on 4 January 2009 during a 4–1 home win against F.C. Paços de Ferreira, and spent most of the season as a right back.
