Paul W. Downs is an American actor, writer, and director best known for his portrayal of Trey on the Comedy Central series Broad City.

Career

Paul W. Downs has been creating digital shorts with Lucia Aniello since the pair met in 2007 at the Upright Citizens Brigade. In 2012 they made a web series called Paulilu Mixtape for Above Average Productions, a division of Broadway Video. Also in 2012, the duo created a series of three videos with Rider Strong and Jackie Clarke called Hooker Lawyer, a parody of American television legal dramas.[1][2][3]

Paul played “Hot Guy” in an episode of the MTV series The CollegeHumor Show in 2009. Addition appearances on CollegeHumor included parodies of a fictional Turkish pop-star, the deli scene from When Harry Met Sally..., and US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.[4]

Since 2014, Paul W. Downs has played the character of Trey on the Comedy Central sitcom Broad City. Trey is a fitness instructor and the boss of Abbi (played by Abbi Jacobson) at Soulstice. Paul is also one of the writers on the show.

Personal life

Paul studied theater at Duke University where he did improv and sketch comedy.[5][6] He lives in Los Angeles with girlfriend and comedy partner, Lucia Aniello.[7][8][9]
