Professor Paul Salveson MBE is an English politician, former local councillor, and an activist for Yorkshire First.

He is a rail professional with 35 years' experience, a member of the Passenger Focus board,[1] and a trustee of Campaign for Better Transport. In 2009, he received an MBE for services to the railway industry.[2]

Salveson was elected to Kirklees Council in 2012 as a Labour candidate, but stepped down in 2013 due to other commitments and pressures, including "the campaign for Northern devolution [and] the Hannah Mitchell Foundation, of which I am General Secretary".[3] In late 2014, he joined Yorkshire First, saying the "vitality in Scotland confirmed that it was the right choice to make".[4] He will stand as the party's parliamentary candidate in Colne Valley.[5][6]

In 2011, Salveson published Socialism with a Northern Accent, described by Labour stalwart John Prescott as "an important account of Labour's traditional, community-based values with many lessons for today".[7] The book makes the case for the renewal of popular socialism[8] through devolution to the North of England.[9]
