Paul Mathers (born 17 January 1970 in Aberdeen) is a Scottish professional footballer and coach. He is currently the goalkeeping coach at Scottish Premier League side St Mirren. Mathers is also still registered as a player for St Mirren and is used in emergency situations.

Career

Between 1985 and 1995, Mathers made 119 appearances for Dundee, before moving to Falkirk, where he played 76 times in three years. In 1998, he moved to Linfield, making 49 appearances until a transfer back to Dundee in 2001.

In his second stint at Dundee, which lasted for only one season, Mathers was never the first-choice goalkeeper, failing to make a league appearance before moving on, in 2002, to Peterhead.

At Peterhead, Mathers was once more a regular in the side, making 162 appearances before moving to St Mirren in 2007.

As of March 2014, Mathers has yet to make an appearance for St Mirren, being employed primarily as the club's goalkeeping coach; he made 7 appearances on the substitutes' bench during the 2010-11 season, and on 29 March 2014 was on the bench again for a 2-2 SPL draw at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, aged 44.[1]
