Paul E. Jacobs is an American businessman and the current Executive Chairman of Qualcomm.
Education
Dr. Jacobs is the son of Dr. Irwin M. Jacobs, Qualcomm's founder. Following his father into electrical engineering, he received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1984, an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1986 and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1989 from the University of California, Berkeley.
Career
Paul E. Jacobs has been Chief Executive Officer of the company since July 2005, having previous to that date served as the Group President of Qualcomm Wireless and Internet Group from July 2001. Jacobs started with the company as an engineer in the wireless technology development group in 1990.
On 13 December 2013, Qualcomm announced that Jacobs will step down and be replaced by president and COO Steve Mollenkopf as of 4 March 2014.[1]
In 2014, Jacobs was recognized by Qualcomm employees via Glassdoor's annual survey as among "the top 10 CEOs at U.S. Tech Companies".[2]
